Chapter three R & R -- Specific Purpose

Zodiac Signs And Our Personal Prophecies

 Specific Purpose

Reading Chapter three – Thinking through production was a nice change of perspective for me. I was able to see how different formats and layouts can truly reflect the type of affect your going for on your target audience. Throughout this entire chapter I was really able to review the strategies and ideas for arrangements of different sorts of media. I have developed a specific topic after much thinking, and guidance from the last chapter, which is Horoscopes/Zodiac Signs. Next step was to develop my specific purpose. My general purpose was obviously to inform, but inform people about what?
Some of the things I literally did in order to help me identify my specific purpose were found within the first pages of chapter three.
“We believe when you compose you are designing different relationships people will have with each other and their worlds. When you compose to do something, you are, that is , designing futures (pg 60 Designing Compositions Rhetorically).”
In the beginning chapter three talks about the notion of design and how it connects powerfully to a sort of ‘creative intelligence’. This was a curious wording choice for me. Ultimately the goal I discovered was to use creative intelligence (whatever amounts of that I have in me to inspire an argument, thus shaping an impact on my audience by either influencing their experiences, their attitudes, or getting them to consider an issue or change their minds. So how am I to do this? What specific purpose could I have that would allow me to alter their perspectives of teach them something from a different angle?
I ultimately discovered a potential specific purpose when I read and acted on the ‘How Do You Compose?’ section. I learned about time being proportional to the project, so I immediately began research on my topic and found it’s a wee-bit more complicated than expected; but in a good way. I generated my own questions to find my specific purpose, like what does a birth time have to do with how we receive our zodiac signs. The truth is there are multiple theories, most people believe it’s the placement of the conciliation that determines your zodiac sign, but (this is true to an extent) in most cases it’s the placement of the planets. I learned about a structure of how I would like to build my website when I went on a walk as well! As I was undergoing these methods of research I kept returning to my statement of purpose. I ultimately decided my specific purpose was to analyze the different methods by which we are connected to our zodiac signs and how whether we behave is influenced by our self-identities, or if our behavior follows the predictions of our zodiac prophecies.
