I found these readings absolutely positively interesting. I
have always been fascinated with the psychology of culture itself. Put that
together with technology, rhetoric and the advancement of society and societal identification
and you have got me hooked. Interestingly enough, I have made the conclusion
that because the medium of technology has the potential to be “equalizing” as
they state it in the book, we could redefine our whole world off an equal
system. Education, if you are able to access technologies and media can be
attained at all levels. Now-a-days people are taking online courses, not just
online high school education, but diplomas, bachelors, doctorates, and more! If
we could figure out a way, to grant opportunity to access the web, the world
itself and the sense of community among nations would change drastically;
however there are several factors that would make this difficult. One of those
being that, though technology is accessible to most, it is not necessarily
understandable. In large, a vast majority of the internet is written in
English, so we would have to translate what is on it into all kinds of
languages. Second, elderly population tends to avoid use of modern media
technologies. So, we would have to utilize our rhetorical skills, and create a
consumer friendly debate. Since class, race and gender all play a factor into
utilizing this medium, we could potentially use it to standardize differences,
instead of emphasize on them. After reading this article it is clear the
advances that could be made as a culture, nation and essentially world
community are vast, but we first need to educate all people on how to use this
equalizing medium for education.
