I found the article about blogging quite interesting. I feel that is already things that I know and realize, but haven’t ever really thought about it. Like the article says “It is the spontaneous expression of an instant thought – impermanent beyond even the ephemera of daily journalism.” One quote that struck me was “when reading a blog you have a sense of moving backwards in time even though you are moving forwards”. This quote reminded me of a linguistics class I took and the development of language. Just as language develops in time, so does the way we use it, which makes me wonder, if words can expire over time, can/has the way we communicate them expire/ed too?
Another part of this article I found intriguing was the comparisons between blogging, journalists, novelists and reporters. The timing for each is much more or less formal, as well as they require different time arrangements for their thought processes to reach the written word. These comparisons brought be to a more focused thought on bloggers. The way we write is directly affected by our emotions, which creates the tone. If bloggers write or blog their instant thoughts, which are created with different tones (positive or negative) then is that really the best way to get their message across? To me it seems like if you have an opinion or mere message you want others to see, shouldn’t you take time to relay what you want, and use the proper rhetoric?
The article also mentions the feeling of liberation when you can blog. This I understand because I personally believe writing down your thoughts is a positive way of venting, but only if your immediate thoughts are followed by revision and “after-thoughts” do I believe you will effectively translate your message. Also, I understand that blogging is a broadcast not a publication, and that if it stops moving it dies, but my overall conclusion on the article is that I think blogging with purpose should be prepared with purpose, if a blogger desires a certain reaction, then they must imply the correct rhetoric. I believe blogging and reaching the desired goal is either a hit or miss depending on the “how” and “why” that person is blogging.
